Mrs. K Reads!

Hey Haller Cougars! I miss you! I'm thinking of you and want you to know that I am here if you need your librarian. Please email me if you need anything library related or just to say "hi!".

In the meantime, if you need a little read-aloud fun, I'll be posting new read-aloud videos every MONDAY until we are back in school. One read aloud will be a picture book and I will also be reading a chapter from Neil Gaiman's book Fortunately, the Milk ‚Äčin an additional video.

Be sure to bookmark this web page. I'll also post resources to keep the learning and fun going at home. I hope to see you soon!

PS: Parents and families, these read-aloud videos are created with permission from the authors and/or publishers with the understanding that they are to be deleted when school resumes and that they aren't widely shared, and are meant only for Helen Haller students. What Mrs. K is reading this week:

This week, Mrs. K is reading Stargazing, a graphic novel by Jen Wang. This book also happens to be one of the 4th/5th grade choices on our Six Books for Summer order list! Here's the description from the publisher:

"Moon is everything Christine isn't. She’s confident, impulsive, artistic . . . and though they both grew up in the same Chinese-American suburb, Moon is somehow unlike anyone Christine has ever known.

But after Moon moves in next door, these unlikely friends are soon best friends, sharing their favorite music videos and painting their toenails when Christine's strict parents aren't around. Moon even tells Christine her deepest secret: that she has visions, sometimes, of celestial beings who speak to her from the stars. Who reassure her that earth isn't where she really belongs.

Moon's visions have an all-too-earthly root, however, and soon Christine's best friend is in the hospital, fighting for her life. Can Christine be the friend Moon needs, now, when the sky is falling?".
