Dancing People.png

Hello!
My name is Shelley Jefferson and I am super excited to be here at Helen Haller as the Assistant Principal for the second year!  My daughter, Camille. and I moved to Sequim from Bellingham last year.  In my spare time I dance (Square, Waltz, Two-step, and Cha), play piano and guitar, sew, crochet, and garden.  I love being outside enjoying the fabulous Olympic Peninsula!
As part of my responsibilities, I oversee the Cougar Cave.  The Cougar Cave is our student store where students get to spend their Cougar Callouts on merchandise and experiences as part of our Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) system at Helen Haller.  Students earn Cougar Callouts by following the positive behavior expectations in the classroom, on the playground, and in all other areas of our school.  This is an excellent opportunity for parents to volunteer at school as part of the Cougar Cave which will be open on Fridays starting in October.  We also gladly take donations of new or gently used items to be put in the store (Please no edible donations).
One of my passions is promoting regular attendance at school.  My belief is that if a child is not present, it is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to make up that time, learning and the experiences that happened during that time.  Please feel free to reach out to me if you need help or support with attendance.
Student discipline is probably the largest percentage of my job.  I want to assure parents and students that I work through discipline issues with honesty and respect.  I use Restorative Justice, Restorative Circles, and Community Service whenever possible to restore students to good standing within the community, and preserve relationships and dignity.
I look forward to a wonderful year with you and your student, and if there is any way that I can help or support, please feel free to reach out to me.
